Hello,
Do American Health Care organizations or outsourcing companies hire coders who live in Canada? I am a dual citizen.
I have 10 years of experience and 5 certifications.
I am thinking of moving to Ontario which is an English speaking province. Does anyone who has credentials work in Canada for American organizations?
If so, do you have the names of any employers who hire outside the USA? (I would like to continue coding with ICD10CM and CPT coding)
thank you so much!

It depends. Although many organizations will outsource their coding/billing to coders who work in other countries, many other US organizations will allow remote work only for those living in the United States. It has to do with the payroll tax burden with other countries--special forms, special rules, etc. Why would a healthcare company do all of that extra international tax work for one employee, when there's a whole country full of employable coders?

Overall, I think that if you're going to work for a US Healthcare organization, moving to another country and looking for a job from there would be a challenge. If you're already working, and your company is willing to navigate all of the payroll tax burden that Canada requires, that might be your best bet. But don't be surprised if they say "no". Even in my own company, there are several states and territories that are a 'no go' as far as hiring employees remotely and they fully exclude other countries (I specifically asked as we were also considering a move out of the country). Apparently the payroll work is too cumbersome for one employee)
