Wiki Obesity class 2025 changes

If the provider documents Obesity due to excess calories, class 2, will we use 3 codes? E66.812, E66.09, and Z68...... ? Or will it just be the class E66.812 with the BMI Z68....?

Hello, Did you get a response on this question? We are have providers that document severe obesity due to excess calories and we are on the fence on which dx code to use.

If the wording is "Severe obesity due to excess calories," I would use E66.01. My reasoning is that it includes why the patient is obese. As an example of how this could be important: a payer may decide they will only pay for ozempic-like drugs for patients who consistently have severe obesity plus Z codes for diet and exercise counseling.

Does anyone have any information on the pediatric class codes, Z68.541, Z68.542 and Z68.543? These are valid but did not see them on the text files from CMS for the October 1 releases but did see them in other specialty sites.

Hi Jackie
If a baby or newborn see dx blocks of R62, R63, P08, P007 or P92.3 which probably match the Z68 dx code for peds. Anytime do Obesity or Weight dx coding should be 2 dx codes if documentation listed.
I hope helped you
