New telehealth codes

Good morning! I recently went to an aapc meeting where I was informed of the new Telehealth CPT E/M codes for audio/video. However, when I looked closer it said CMS will not recognize the 98000 - 98016 codes? Can someone please clarify this for me? I am in Georgia.

For Medicare (and carriers who follow MC rules), CMS states we are to use the usual in-person E&M visit codes with the POS and 93/95 modifier. However, this may only be valid through March 31st, 2025, as Congress will reconvene to avoid gov't shut down once again and the telehealth issue is part of that circus. The first iteration extended the tele rules for two years but the final only extended through March.

98016 is the only new tele code CMS/MC is recognizing, replaces G2012 (previously "Virtual Check in"). We can now use this for "Synchronous, real-time, telemedicine visit, 5 to 10 minutes medical discussion" but only for an established patient.

Not that I am an expert, but if you click on my name then Messages, you can see some of my other more detailed responses to these same type questions, and others more knowledgeable may have added additional information.
